2009 MBSF awards over $70,500 to 53 students


The Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation is proud to award over $70,500 in scholarships to 53 students in the class of 2009.  Thanks to our generous community members we were able to award scholarships to every student who submitted complete applications.  Here are the 53 award winning graduates.

  • Chelsea Kollmar will receive both a $2828 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship and a Loren and Muriel Monsen Scholarship for $2172.  Chelsea will be attending Whitman College to study Biology.  Chelsea earned the distinction of being the Valedictorian of the class of 2009.
  • Brian Marshall is the recipient of a $1,000 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship as well as a $2,000 Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship.  Brian will be going to the University of Puget Sound to begin his studies in Exercise Science.  Brian is the Salutatorian for the class of 2009.
  • Osa Hale is awarded a $1,000 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship and a $2,000 Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship.  Osa plans to pursue courses in English/Communications at Whitman College.
  • Mikaela Yeomans is awarded both a $2,000 Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship and $1,000 Mt. Baker Staff Scholarship.  Mikaela plans to pursue studies in Education at Washington State University.
  • Corinna Pilat  is this year’s winner of a $1750 Christine Sygitowicz-Sherman Scholarship as well as a $1250 Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship. Corinna is undecided where she will attend to begin pre-med studies. 
  • Emily Magee is receiving a $350 Calvin Johnson Scholarship, a $750 Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship and a $1900 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship. She will enroll in University of Puget Sound or University of Washington and is undecided on a major.
  • Kendra Rohde has been chosen for a $2500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  She plans to major in Art History at Washington State University.
  • Haley Straka is the recipient of a $2500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  Haley will use this scholarship at Whatcom Community College where she will begin courses in the medical field or nursing.
  • Monica Alfredsen is the winner of a $730 William Castle Scholarship as well as a $1770 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship. Monica has been accepted at Chapman University in Southern California where she plans to study Vocal Performance.
  • Alexander Cutler is awarded a $2000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  His area of interest will be Biochemistry/Medicine at Western Washington University.
  • Sarah Baisden will apply her $2000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship to help finance her education at Eastern Washington University. Her area of interest is Journalism/Communications.
  • Stephanie Raper has earned a $2000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  Stephanie will attend Western Washington University where she plans to pursue courses in Anthropology. 
  • Brian Davis is awarded three scholarships:  a Thorleif Mohn Scholarship for $600, a $1000 Mt. Baker Staff Scholarship and a $412 PTA Scholarship. Brian will begin his training in Secondary Education at Western Washington University.
  • Megan Butenschoen is receiving a $2000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  Megan has been accepted at Western Washington University. She is interested in preparing for a career in Education.
  • William Managan is awarded two scholarships:  a $280 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship and a $1220 Mandy Stavik Scholarship. He plans to prepare for a career in Construction Management at Washington State University.
  • Serena Lindal is the winner of a $1500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  Serena will study Psychology at the University of Washington.
  • Shelby Brooks has earned a $1500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship to help her with expenses at Whitworth College.  She plans to begin Pre-Med courses.
  • Danielle Leech is the recipient of a $1500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  She will attend Whatcom Community College where she will begin her general studies and Nursing Program. 
  • Samantha Tarr is receiving both a $1000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship and a $500 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship. She will attend Bellingham Technical College and learn to be a Dental Assistant. 
  • Anna Curtis is awarded a $1000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship as well as a $500 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship. Anna will study Business Administration at Whatcom Community College. 
  • Brett Johnson is the winner of a $1500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.   Brett has been accepted at Corban College in Salem, Oregon where he plans to go into Art Education.
  • Crystal Martines is awarded a $200 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and a $1300 Rose Gerber Scholarship. Crystal will begin her education at Western Washington University with general studies. 
  • Keegan Chapman has earned a $1000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.  Keegan plans to prepare for a career in Secondary Education at Western Washington University.
  • Chad Cain has been chosen for a $500 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship and a $500 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship. Chad wants to major in Fire Science at Skagit Valley Community College
  • Nick Borg is the recipient of a $1000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.   He has been accepted at Western Washington University where he will major in Business.
  • Maija Haggith will use her $1000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship to help with expenses at Oregon State University. Maija’s area of study will be Animal Science. 
  • Matthew Cronk will receive a $300 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship and a $500 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship. Matthew will learn Welding Technology at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Olga Kabinov is awarded an $800 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. She plans to prepare for a career in the Culinary Arts at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Tianna Schneider has won an $800 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Tianna is considering a course of study in Special Education at Whatcom Community College.
  • Emily Hart  will use her $800 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship to help finance her education at the University of Portland.  She would like to prepare for a career in Elementary Education.
  • Mary Bergerson is receiving an $800 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Mary has been accepted at Western Washington University. She would like to be a Nurse or a Secondary Teacher
  • Tyler Compton is awarded two Scholarships: a Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship for $234, and a $566 Class of 1952 Scholarship. Tyler plans to prepare for Fire Fighting at Skagit Valley Community College.
  • Christine Cadman is awarded a $700 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. She has been accepted at Whatcom Community College where she will earn a Transfer Degree.
  • Jessica Firth will use her $700 Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship to help finance her training in Dental Assisting at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Kayla Sisson is receiving a $150 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and a $350 Clyde and Judy Denton Scholarship. Kayla plans to work towards a career in Dental Assisting at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Leah Pheifer is the recipient of a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Leah will attend Whatcom Community College where she will begin courses in Childhood Education. 
  • Shandy Batista has earned a $600 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and a $430 George and Tena Giarde Scholarship to use at Skagit Valley Community College for studies in Early Childhood Education..
  • Brandi Anderson is awarded a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Brandi will attend Whatcom Community College to take courses in Nursing.
  • Travis Doser is the winner of a $500 Monaghan Scholarship for use at Whatcom Community College.  Travis wishes to go into Teaching/Mathematics.
  • Roxanne Mymrim is awarded a $1500 David Way Memorial Scholarship. Roxanne has been accepted at Whatcom Community College.  She will begin studies in Biology.
  • Jennifer Critchett will receive a $500 Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. She is interested in Music and Teaching and will attend Whatcom Community College.
  • Lidiya Pilat will receive a $500 Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship for use at Whatcom Community College. Lidiya wants to work towards a transfer degree in Accounting.
  • Alexis Pinkston will apply her $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship towards Veterinary Tech training at Whatcom Community College. 
  • Teena Burdette is awarded a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Teena will attend Bellingham Technical College to study the Culinary Arts.
  • Matthew Millson is the recipient of a $600 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. He plans to earn a Transfer Degree at Whatcom Community College.
  • Samantha Mount will use her $600 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship to help finance Veterinary Tech training at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Cody Anderson has been chosen for a $550 Acmenormous Scholarship. Cody will attend North Idaho College with plans to major in Criminal Justice.
  • Jacqueline Badgero is the winner of a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. She has been accepted at Northwestern College in Minnesota where she plans to prepare for a career in Elementary Education.
  • Jose Ramirez is awarded a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Jose wishes to prepare for a career of Auto Body Technology at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Elizabeth Garcia will use her $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship towards her education at Whatcom Community College. She plans to study Elementary Bilingual Education and Music.
  • Hope Woolf is receiving a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Hope will attend Bellingham Technical College to begin training in Licensed Practical Nursing.
  • Ian Campbell is awarded a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship. Ian plans to train to be a Computer Specialist at Whatcom Community College. 
  • Melanie Garst will receive a  Wolschlagel Scholarship and Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship for a total of $500. Melanie has been accepted at Bellingham Technical College where she plans to earn a certificate in Dental Assisting.
