2008 MBSF Awards Over $85,000 in Scholarships to 45 Graduates
The Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation is proud to award over $85,000 in scholarships to
students in the class of 2008. We salute all our scholarship
recipients as well as our generous community members who make
these awards possible. Congratulations and best wishes to our
2008 graduates!
- Claire Smith has been awarded
a $5000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
She will use this scholarship to pursue her studies at
Pacific Lutheran University. She would like to become an
international journalist or an English teacher in a foreign
country.
- Alexandria Lepper is the recipient
of a $5000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.
Alexandria will attend Cornell University where she will
prepare towards a career as a large animal veterinarian.
- Sierra Brisky will use her
$5000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to pursue her interest in design and environmental studies
at Western Washington University.
- Kendra Pass has been awarded
a $2000 Clyde and
Judy Denton Scholarship as well as a $1000
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship. She
will attend Washington State University to study psychology
or mathematics.
- Bayli Hochstein will apply her
$2000 Clyde and
Judy Denton Scholarship and her $1000 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship to
study to be a nurse at the University of Washington.
- Megan Gliva has been awarded
a $2400 Christine
Sygitowicz-Sherman Scholarship and a $600 Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation Scholarship.
Megan will attend Washington State University where she will
study to be a pharmacist.
- Nicole Knauft will receive four
scholarships: a $1100 William Castle
Scholarship, a
$600 Mount Baker
PTA Scholarship,
a $1200 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship,
and a $100 Mount
Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Nicole would like to study accounting, psychology or
secondary education at Western Washington University.
- Garrett Whitmyre is the recipient
of a $2000 Thomas
and Martina Horn Scholarship as well as a $1000
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship. Garrett will attend Western Washington University. He
aspires to be a science or math teacher.
- Eric Tesch is the winner of
a $2000 Thomas
and Martina Horn Scholarship and also a $1000 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship. Eric
will be entering Embry-Riddle Aeronautical in Arizona to
study aerospace engineering.
- Heidi Hollinsworth has been awarded
a $2000 Thomas
and Martina Horn Scholarship and a $1000 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship to
help further her education at Seattle University. Heidi is
interested in environmental studies.
- Nicholas Marshall will receive a
$2000 Thomas and
Martina Horn Scholarship.
Nicholas will attend Western Washington University where he
will pursue his interest in engineering.
- Alisa Maleng has been chosen
for the $1800 Mandy Stavik Scholarship.
She will also receive a $200 Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation Scholarship.
Alisa will work towards a degree in science and nursing at
the University of Washington.
- Derek Johnson will apply his
$2000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship towards earning a teaching certificate at Corban College,
Oregon. Derek would love to come back and teach history at
Mt. Baker.
- Celeste Hilgart is awarded a
$2000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Celeste will attend Western Washington University where she
will study biology.
- Tiana Oshiro will use her
$2000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to help fund her education at the University of Washington.
Tiana is interested in accounting.
- Jeff Hurlbert has been chosen
as a recipient of a $2000 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship. Jeff
will be attending Washington State University where he will
study mechanical engineering
- Tiffany Baisden is awarded two
scholarships: a $500 Calvin Johnson
Scholarship and a
$1500 Mount Baker
Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
She will be studying nursing at Eastern Washington
University.
- Megan Zender is awarded a
$1500 Clyde and
Judy Denton Scholarship as well as a $500 Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation Scholarship.
Megan will study at Bellevue Community College. She plans to
become a nurse.
- Haley Kraft will use her
$2000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to further her education at either University of Washington
or Western Washington University. Haley wants to study
engineering and mathematics.
- Ben Kelley is the recipient
of a $2000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.
Ben will continue his education at Quest University in
British Columbia, Canada. Ben will pursue studies in
environmental policy and sustainability.
- Koji Kuromiya-Parker is awarded two
scholarships: a $1000 Clyde and Judy Denton
Scholarship and a
$1000 Mount Baker
Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Koji will be studying automotive technology at Bellingham
Technical College.
- Vicky Herrera is the winner of
a $2000 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Vicky will use this scholarship to help finance her
education at theUniversity of Rochester, where she will
major in either business or science.
- Elly Hagen will receive a
$1550 Mount Baker
Staff Scholarship and a $650 George and Tena Giarde
Scholarship. Elly
would like to prepare for a career in education at Western
Washington University.
- Karolyn Krumdiack is the recipient
of a $1000 Mount
Baker Staff Scholarship as well as a $500 Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation Scholarship.
Karolyn will prepare for a career in early childhood
education at Whatcom Community College.
- Daniel Sutton is awarded a
$1500 Mount Baker
Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Daniel will study computer science at Pacific Lutheran
University.
- Tyler Yost is the winner of
a $1500 Mount
Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship to help fund his
education at Whatcom Community College. Tyler will begin his
college career with general studies.
- Nathan Campbell will receive a
$1500 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Nathan will study music composition at Chapman University,
California.
- Ashlee Phy will receive
$1500 David Way
Scholarship.
Ashlee would like to study to be either a dental hygienist
or a registered nurse at either SFU, Bellingham Technical
College, Whatcom Community College, Clark or Pacific.
- Melissa Wigg will use her
$1500 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to help finance her education at Whatcom Community College,
where she will study business administration.
- Meghan Strachila is awarded a
$1300 Rose Gerber
Scholarship as
well as a $200 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.
Meghan will work towards a teaching degree at Western
Washington University.
- Chelsea Holcombe is the winner of
a $1500 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Chelsea will be attending Seattle University where she will
pursue her interest in business and economics.
- Frank Kaus is awarded a
$1500 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to help further his education in music and drama at either
Western Washington University or Whatcom Community College.
- Larissa Bertschinger will use her
$1250 Loren and
Muriel Monsen Scholarship and her $300 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship to
help finance her continuing education at Whatcom Community
College. Larissa wants to major in art.
- Brittany Hammer is awarded two
scholarships: an $800 Mount Baker Scholarship
Foundation Scholarship and a $500 Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship.
Brittany will attend Eastern Washington University where she
plans to major in physical therapy.
- Jesse Copps is awarded a
$1300 David Howem
Scholarship to
help with expenses at Bellingham Technical College. Jesse
will work towards becoming an electrician.
- Melissa Linebrink will receive a
$600 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Melissa will take general studies courses at Central
Washington University.
- Laura Basart will use her $600
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship to
help finance her continuing education at Whatcom Community
College. Laura wants to become a pediatrician.
- Jared Ash is the recipient
of a $600 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship.
Jared will study computer network technology at Bellingham
Technical College.
- Megan Wight is awarded a $600
Karen Marie
Wolshlagel Scholarship.
Megan will attend Northwest Hair Academy to learn
cosmetology.
- Gregory Bryce McKay will receive a
$600 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship to help with expenses at Whatcom Community College. Gregory
would like to work towards getting a teaching certificate.
- Eli Jacoby will use his $600
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship to
help fund his education at Bellingham Technical College,
where he will enter the instrumentation and control
technology program.
- Arianna Thomas is the winner of
a $600 Thorleif
Mohn Scholarship.
Arianna will study at Bellingham Technical College to learn
to be an accounting technician.
- Shelli Anderson is awarded a $500
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship.
Shelli plans to study accounting at Bellingham Technical
College.
- Nicole Buchanan is awarded a $500
Thorleif Mohn
Scholarship. She
will enroll in general studies at Everett Community College
to prepare for a four-year university.
- Jon Raney has been chosen
to receive a $500 Monaghan Scholarship
as well as a $600
Mount Baker PTA
Scholarship. Jon
will take courses in secondary education or sports therapy
at Linfield College, Oregon.
