2005 MBSF Awards Over $36,000 in Scholarships to 45 Graduates


  • Robert Gay was awarded a $2,000 Clyde and Judy Denton Endowed Scholarship to attend the University of Washington. He intends to study computer science, music and math.
  • Brittany Smith  is the 2005 recipient of the $2,000 Christine Sygitowicz-Sherman Endowed Scholarship. She will attend Whitman College and major in math.
  • Chris Millson  is the winner of the Mandy Stavik Memorial Endowed Scholarship for $1,500. He will study Education at Western Washington University.
  • Sierra Golden was awarded a Mt. Baker Staff Scholarship for $1,400. She will attend Gonzaga University to study education and medicine.
  • Kelsey Pullar  is the recipient of a Thorleif Mohn Scholarship for $1,000 and will attend Colorado College to focus on Spanish and other foreign languages.
  • Sara Strachila is the winner of a $1,000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship. She will be studying criminal justice at Eastern Washington University.
  • Kirsten Alfredsen has been awarded a $1,000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship to attend the University of Washington to study music.
  • Briana Kelley has been chosen to receive a $1,000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship. She will be attending Washington State University to study agricultural education and veterinary medicine.
  • Jordan Radke has been awarded a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $1,000. He will study education at Western Washington University.
  • Katy Philpott  is the recipient of a $1,000 Thorleif Mohn Scholarship. She will go to Western Washington University to pursue a career in medicine.
  • Ruslan Barabolkin has been given a Mt. Baker Staff Scholarship for $1,400 to assist him in attending the University of Washington to study electrical engineering and computer science.
  • Emily Nevels has been chosen to receive a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $1,000. She will attend Seattle University with a goal of becoming a school counselor.
  • Steve Westdal is awarded a $2,000 Clyde and Judy Denton Endowed Scholarship. Steve will attend the University of Portland where he intends to study electrical engineering.
  • Joshua Lucy is the recipient of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $1,000. He will study at the University of San Francisco in the arts and sciences.
  • Kylee Cowden has received a Clyde and Judy Denton Endowed Scholarship for $1,250. She will seek a degree in dental hygiene at Shoreline or Whatcom Community College.
  • Tatiana Mercy has been chosen to receive a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $1,000 and will study forensics at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Rebecca Managan was given a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship of $500. She intends to enroll in a nursing program at Eastern Washington University.
  • Amber Smit is the recipient of a $500 Mt. Baker PTA Scholarship and a $500 George and Tina Giarde Endowed Scholarship. She intends to study teaching and counseling at Washington State University.
  • Dan Chudek is the winner of a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. He intends to study natural resources and science at Western Washington University.
  • Damian Cade has been given a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. He will attend the University of Washington to major in physics and chemistry.
  • Holly Lockwood  is the recipient of a $1,250 Clyde and Judy Denton Endowed Scholarship. She will attend Whatcom Community College in the medical assistant program.
  • Celina Mallahan has earned a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500 to attend Western Washington University and study business administration.
  • Megan Monaghan is chosen to receive a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. She will enroll at Everett Community College to study physical therapy and veterinary medicine.
  • Lange Solberg was selected to receive a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500 to attend the University of Washington to study entrepreneurial business.
  • Luda Kazadaev  is the recipient of a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. She will study at Bellingham Technical College to become a medical receptionist.
  • Heather Larsen has been given a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. She intends to study art or landscaping at Whatcom Community College.
  • Christina Barton will receive a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500 to attend Whatcom Community College.
  • Garrett Graham has been awarded a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500 to attend Whatcom Community College and study engineering.
  • Shawna Tyler has been chosen for a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. She will attend Whatcom Community College to study fashion design.
  • Aaron Banchero will receive a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship for $500. He will attend Western Washington University to study environmental science.
  • Bailey Wilson  is the winner of a $500 Karen Marie Wolshlagel Endowed Scholarship to attend Whatcom Community College. Bailey will study fire fighting.
  • Ronald Russell  is the recipient of a $500 Karen Marie Wolshlagel Endowed Scholarship to attend Bellingham Technical College in the electrician program.
  • Carrie Strachila is the winner of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. She plans to attend Central Washington University to study education.
  • Carrisa Zender  is the recipient of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. She will attend Whatcom Community College to study child development.
  • Matt Raney has been chosen to receive a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. He will enroll at Whatcom Community College to study music composition and performance.
  • Rebecca Orlowski  is the winner of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. She will attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where she will study music and acting.
  • Jordan Hart has won a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award of $500. He plans to study engineering at the University of Hawaii.
  • Tiffany Phy has been chosen for a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award of $500. She will enroll in the nursing program at Whatcom Community College.
  • Mike Castro has been given a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. He plans to attend Whatcom Community College and study business administration.
  • James Ward is the recipient of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. He will study education at Whatcom Community College.
  • Crystal Cartner has been chosen for a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award of $500. She plans to enter the dental assistant program at Bellingham Technical College.
  • Malori Smith is the recipient of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500. She intends to enter the nursing program at Whatcom Community College.
  • James Christiansen won a $500 Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award. He intends to go to Bellingham Technical College to learn welding technology.
  • Jonathan McGovern, winner of a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation award for $500, will attend Bellingham Technical College to learn computer networking.
  • Will Hagen was awarded a Clyde and Judy Denton Endowed Scholarship for $500. Will is going to attend the Universal Technical Institute in Arizona to study auto mechanics.
