The Louise E. Peterson Scholarship is awarded to a qualifying Mount Baker High School senior. Louise Peterson was a devoted teacher and the mother of Cathy Harris, Mt. Baker Junior High Principal from 1991-1999.
This scholarship,up to $10,000/year, can covers costs of tuition, fees, and/or books for up to 4 years while attending either a Washington state community college, leading to graduation from a 4 year WA state college, or 4 years attendance at a public WA state college.
Renewal of the scholarship for continuing years is dependent on making satisfactory progress in the college of your choice and maintaining at least a 2.5 academic average. The Louise E. Peterson Scholarship, which was established in 2002, can be used for up to $10,000 year for room/board if the student applying is the recipient of a College Bound Scholarship from WA state.
A preferred Applicant:
- Plans to become a certified teacher, but may pursue a degree in another area of study,
- Show financial need,
- Plans to attend either:
- Two years at a community college in Washington state and then transfer to a state WA college/university for a degree program,
- OR
- 4 years at a state WA college/university,
- Be a Mount Baker High School graduating senior.
- Have applied to either a community college (for AA degree and transfer to a state college/university for 2 years) or to a state WA college/university for 4 years
- Have maintained a minimum of a 2.50 GPA.
- Has actively participated in school/or community activities
Special consideration will be given to minority students and students of color. Consideration can be given to students entering fields of study that may provide assistance to others, or students entering areas of study for which the demand for graduates is great.
